I also tell people that it is remarkable how little noise there is in the measurement you get from stepping on the scale. It's probably <0.5lbs of fluctuations, and the fluctuations are predictable (always lowest in the morning and higest at night). So, it makes sense to weigh yourself often, and even weigh yourself before deciding whether you can justify eating something or not.
Yea, I think it sounds high because people see "Omg I'm 2lbs heavier than this morning!" but they don't think of it in terms of their body weight. If you weigh 200lbs, 2lbs fluctuation between morning and evening is just 1%. Try getting that type of precision from anything else. It's actually quite good.
I get really frustrated with a roomie who's like "don't weight yourself every day", and I'm like "more data points are more useful; sure, don't overreact or overcorrect, but just store the data points."

So far my pleas have been ignored, and I'm told "no, you shouldn't weigh yourself every day, it's bad."
