The thing with Elon is, he has extremely low EQ when it comes to dealing with individuals. He cares mostly about masses and scale so he's not going to notice that he's caused harm to one person.
Are these masses real people, or are they his idealized vision of what people want ("straw people", to coin a phrase).
For example, we know that he does not like mass transit, and pushes transport systems for single people or small groups. Yet these system cannot scale as well as larger subway and train systems, as the Las Vegas Convention center loop shows.
That would suggest to me he doesn't care about the masses who use mass transit and cannot afford paying for his far more expensive proposals.
"Cares" in this case meant that he pays more attention to the masses. I didn't suggest that he cares about the feelings of the masses nor that he does not have internal biases.
Could you give some examples of what you mean by "He cares mostly about masses and scale"?
I mean, CEOs and other higher-ups at every big company focus on scale far more than on a single user of their products, so I assume you mean something particularly notable concerning Musk that isn't true of, say, Tim Cook, Jeff Bezos, and the like.
And, isn't it a bit narrow-focused to describe this as "harm to one person"? The linked-to piece at https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-64804007 which Musk commented on claims that Twitter
> ... is no longer able to protect users from trolling, state-co-ordinated disinformation and child sexual exploitation, following lay-offs and changes under owner Elon Musk.
> Exclusive academic data plus testimony from Twitter users backs up their allegations, suggesting hate is thriving under Mr Musk's leadership, with trolls emboldened, harassment intensifying and a spike in accounts following misogynistic and abusive profiles.
I'm not fond of "well actually"ing people, but your argument presupposes two things that I simply do not agree with.
(1) A person's SOP can be disparaging others and yet they still earnestly care about the "masses".
(2) Saying you care about something is more than tangentially related to caring about it.
I'm not in Elon's head/heart/whatever and I don't claim to know his true reasons for doing anything. That said, I generally only give people the benefit of their word when they aren't constantly demonstrating traits to the contrary.
You are trying to whitewash an asshole by diagnosing him psychologically. Also his "care for masses" is disingenuous. He isn't going to Mars. His cars don't self drive and likely never will. His giant steel rocket is a Spruce Goose. And without his Spruce Goose flying several times a month, his ISP-in-space can't launch high-capacity satellites. He's an asshole. At any scale. To any audience.

I'm not. You can check my post history. My views on Elon are trending to the negative territory.
What I'm not however, is someone who is part of the angry internet culture that wants to cancel everyone for any mistake and disparage everything they've done no matter what.
I do not believe what I've stated in this thread is wrong.

I was asking for an example of what you meant, and why you thought is particularly relevant to mention this about Musk, as I can't see how Musk stands out on this topic compared to any other big company CEO.
That isn't a right-or-wrong.
How this is tied to cancel culture is beyond me. You're talking about BBC writer who's being cancelled by a wave of hate, right?
Elon cares very much about an individual. That individual is called Elon Musk. He doesn't care about anybody else, whether individuals or masses as the evidence available amply illustrates.

That's a "mass" of people affected, yes?
It’s not controversial to say Elon has low EQ towards individuals. He’s demonstrated this over and over again.
It’s not controversial to say that Elon pays more attention to the masses and large scale issues over individuals.

No. I was referring to you and the author I replied to.
