Truck driving certainly has mythical appeal; like being a cowboy, or even a gangster.
That said, autonomous long-haul trucks aren't that far into the future. We might be decades from full autonomous densely populated Urban A to Urban B trucking. But once outside those center there's a lot of territory begging for the lack of need for the human mind. AI does most of the mileage. Humans handle the last (couple) miles.

This driver shortage will be short-lived.
