I disagree that age of an appliance has anything to do with house fires. Engineering design and condition matter far more than "new == better".

Missing principles:

1. Unplug all unused appliances

2. Move heat- and humidity-causing processing away from things flammable and that must stay dry

3. Be prepared for fire. Have a fire dousing methods such as a giant open box of baking soda AND a lid large enough to smother flames AND a kitchen fire extinguisher

4. Place or relocate smoke/fire alarms too close to the kitchen where they may cause false alarms and degrade from accumulating microfine particulates

5. Only do large submerged deep frying outside and away from structures

6. Use less risky cooking methods
