I think this is a great idea. It will keep people from being misinformed by bots, hackers and foreign influencers.
"verified accounts" = those willing to pay Twitter $8/mo.

So your "For You" will now be a bunch of Elon fanboys and former Truth Social / Parker users :)

"For You" was never inundated by bots / foreign influencers, that's not what this change is trying to address.

Also by people you follow. If he really wants do this, at least make it 'random blue tick accounts + people you follow (regardless of blue tick status)'.
Do you remember when they opened blue checkmark accounts to verify idents and promptly took money from people, didn't check id's and had rampant hilarious impersonation :P...

This doesn't touch any of that.

Is this sarcasm? If you don't think the three groups you mention are willing and able to throw money at a system that will considerably extend their reach then you have some catching up to do. If I had a budget to run influence operations I could go hog wild with $8000/month.
This seems surprisingly reasonable. The “for you” discovery system is mostly crap anyway (if you want Twitter to actually be good, one should exclusively use the “Following” view).

Given that, might as well attempt to monetize it.

I would agree IF twitter didn't use dark patterns to force the 'for you' view upon us.
It does not any more. Clicking on the Following tab (or a pinned list) will keep you there between sessions. It doesn’t switch back to the algorithmic feed as it used to do.
Really? That's great news if true - I'll test for myself. Do you know when that happened? It was definitely still behaving badly a few weeks ago when I had to hack my own plugin together to override it.
On Android, if I'm already at the top of the Following tab and I press on the home icon again, it switches me over to the For You tab.
Maybe you need to update the app? I know this is changed in the website for a few weeks now.
I saw an interesting thing (Found the link: https://twitter.com/alex193a/status/1638275630428049411 ) that said they're going to give Subscribers the ability to hide that they have subscribed.

I wonder if checking "hide" will also bar you from appearing in the "For You" page. Because otherwise it's a bit of a privacy breach.
