Here's a suggestion: you'll have more luck creating something new in reference to an old things, if you don't make the entire premise about attacking the old thing. Lots of people clearly enjoy April Fool's day. Let them enjoy it, there's no need to label them as cringe.
Instead, why not put this on a new day, say April 2nd? I would get behind that. April 1st is for joking around and having fun, April 2nd is for being good and kind to each other. Both sides of humanity are important.
