My dream: a visible cue on screen telling me if my iPhone is muted, instead of having to feel the switch in the dark to try to determine if I will embarrass myself in the cinema…
Since now it will not be possible to see if I’m mute or not while looking at the button, I assume a visible cue on the screen will be mandatory.
You don’t have to feel the position, just flip it. If there is no tactile feedback you’ve just switched from silent to loud, so flip it again. If it gives tactile feedback, it was on loud and is no silent.
I expect the purported solid state switch would work the same way; some tactile feedback for the mode.
My point was: I hope apple decided a visual indication on screen was not required because the switch is red when muted, hence there is already a visual indicator. Hence: no physical visual indicator anymore => introduction of an on-screen visual indicator
we need a mandatory, enforced, mute functionality in all media apps. the button is extra. most apps are ignoring your volume settings. they all seem to have their own settings.
tiktok is my go-to example. i seldom open the app because i have no idea how loud the video my friends sent me is. the app doesn't not respect my volume settings or have a mute setting. and i have the silent mode turned on.
i have also noticed that many people have given up on trying to figure it out. and we are losing a basic courtesy such as keeping your devices quiet in public places. apps like tiktok could be the main culprit here.
