There are a number of takes on this idea already, however I wanted something that wasn't a browser extension, didn't require a server, is trivial to run, and saves conversations locally as Markdown files.

This does the above, and now I have a nice, searchable local copy of all of my ChatGPT conversations.

The code was mostly written by GPT-4.

I updated this gist to include a single-line bookmarklet version. With that, all you have to do is click the bookmark, and then click each conversation to download it as a markdown file.
