I mostly refuse to consider function coloring a problem. Async programming has a different mental model than synchronous programming, so I don't think it's unreasonable to treat them differently.
That said, I welcome exploration of more implicit models as well - it's just that the debate is tiresome. The ideal paradigm often depends on what the given language more naturally supports.
I can certainly empathize with your perspective and I find myself in agreement with it too. My frustration with function coloring primarily stems from its implementation in JavaScript/TypeScript. I believe that even with the use of colored functions there is potential for a more enhanced developer experience.
