What I wonder is why the US government does not see the economic loss caused by limiting immigration. Our labor shortage could be quickly improved by embracing the skilled workers who would like to come here, then we’d be capturing the gains from a robust and growing high-skill labor force. Instead we seem unwilling or unable to modernize our immigration policy, and are basically encouraging companies to move work abroad. I know, “politics.”
Jobs may even be outsourced from the cities to cheaper areas in US. Not many countries allow firing at will, and apparently this is needed every ~10 years for 20% of the staff.
