Worked in a visual effects studio which had a mix of Irix, Linux, and OSX machines where we needed to synchronise platform specific packages and tools. Used rdist to do this; this was way back in the day when the only configuration manager out there was probably rdist and cfengine.
I have to say rdist really held up for such a baroque tool.
