Show HN: Time Passes – a timeline of your life, human history, and the universe (timepasses.net)

Hi HN. This is a tool I created to scratch my own itch. There’s been a few timeline projects posted to ShowHN over the years but none that did what I wanted, which is to show both my own life and family events, and world history, and it have it scale from seconds to all of time.

This is very much a prototype, but it works. It works best on devices with a trackpad or keyboard: scroll to pan & zoom doesn’t work on touch-screen devices.

Although I build it mainly for myself, a couple of people I’ve mentioned it to thought it was a good idea, so I’m hoping it’s useful to others as well. There’s still a lot of missing functionality, but I keep procrastinating on showing anyone or releasing it.

It’s also rather thin on historical events at the moment. So far I’ve just added interesting events as I’ve thought or learnt about them them. I’m not sure whether to bulk import historical event data from somewhere or to keep adding events manually.

You need to create an (free) account to save data, but anyone can try it out. Or use username/password: demo/hackernews if you don’t want to create a new account.
