Late night coffee?
I'm pretty sure i would crash the whole next day even if i managed to stay awake with coffee the previous night.
I'm convinced some people have a special gift in terms of # of hours of sleep required. Some famous people like Churchill and Thatcher just needed 4 or 5 hours of sleep. I envy such people. I am in my mid 40s and also awake at 2am but I need 8 hours of sleep. Powered by coffee at the moment :D
Motivation plays a huge role. I’ve been both ambitious and unambitious at various times in my life.

When you’re sufficiently motivated you have energy for everything aligned with your goal. When you’re not, nothing is aligned, and you have no energy.

Yeah that would align with my energy and my girlfriend both coming and going at the same time
Both were said to stay up late. Lee as "the last one to leave a party" and Nima of playing loud music late night, DJ'ing and having a short temper.
People on various drugs can stay awake for days at a time. Look at some meth addict documentary for some insight into this. At some point for some people alcohol can keep them awake too. Which seems counter intuitive but their body reacts differently to the depressive effects of booze than most people and stimulates a waking effect. Alcoholics are pretty prone to this.
eh, I was stone cold sober reverse engineering a PLC data protocol from 2 to 7am last night, just got done with East Bay Bike Party 20 minutes ago, I'm almost out of my early thirties. Not a common occurrence for me but sometimes you're just zoned into something and then it's 6am
