Ask HN: What info is important for Software Engineering Manager during week?

I'm doing some research. What are the most important information that an SWE Manager needs during the week from their direct reports?

micro manage everything
imagine we are in the before times
Most of it boils down to:

- what do I know that my direct reports/their direct reports do not know?

- what does my manager/their manager know that I don’t know?

Do you have an example of knowing stuff (i.e. corporate politics, project issues, what you are having for lunch today)?
Things coming from above that may not have been communicated down:

- Headcount projections for next quarter

- New projects on the horizon

- A project has been cancelled (seriously, waited 3 weeks to hear of this once, all throw away work)

- Results of OKR exercises

- What OTHER adjacent teams are up to (they might be building the exact same thing in parallel, someone above both groups is responsible for that getting communicated)

- Non-standard corporate holiday is happening, so like don't show up to the office that day

- Leadership team off-site, so they won't be available for a couple days

- Compliance related activities happening

- Disaster recovery drills are underway, expect weird things happening
