Is this supposed to be less lethal than regular taser guns?
Did you reply before reading? When were tasers ever used for crowd control?
i think your right, a modified cattle prod would probably outdo a taser
Why not just give cops the slingshots we used in childhood?
When I was a kid I had seen on Discovery/NatGeo a microwave based crowd control device, which had precise control over the area over coverage such that out of 3 people standing side by side it would only affect the one in the middle as needed. It would just heat up the water in your body & you would be forced to flee.....
the Active Denial System. it was deployed to Iraq though apparently never used. they've since miniaturized the tech and started selling to police departments (iirc) but I still don't think it's been used.

I really want to find a DIY build because the device fascinates me, but the only builds I've seen use a regular microwave magnetron rather than using the higher frequency.

Video of the gun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy-ozrUL1S0 - looks like it could break some bones.
Right, the watermelon at the end doesn't bode well for human targets... Quite interesting that the UI on the gun's screen is in English... I wonder if that was just easier because of hw and sw they used in the project, or if they're planning to sell them to the world.
Interesting that the marketing appears explicitly compatible with Xi Thought as per state direction. It will be interesting to see if Chinese manufacturing know how and capacity can compete with American ingenuity and technology in this sector. It seems like the arguably competitive American ArcFlash coil gun options are ahead in development and more powerful and flexible but also relatively expensive and cumbersome at this time.
