Its not just capitalistic competition, but the more fundamental pressure to be first and standard.
The A1111 Stable Diffusion repo is a good example. Its based on the old Stability AI implementation, instead of the newer and (I would argue) better huggingface diffusers library, but its cemented as the standard because it hit critical mass first and is sucking all the air out of the room. And there is basically zero traction for any SD implementations outside of A1111 and diffusers derivatives, much less alternative diffusion networks that are popping up, aside from cloud services with existing name recognition.
