Ask HN: Fb.org Instead of Fb.com?

Facebook/Meta is basically at a point where people will keep an account for basic life stuff although posting and interactions are obviously not what they used to be. It's basically once again just the phonebook of the internet now that the hype has worn off. Because continuing to try and monetise and squeeze out profits can only end in more crappy experience and death spiral, surely it could be a positive for it to transition into a solid NFP like Wikipedia and be something that is nurtured by the community rather than just used for corporate gain? Surely Zuck has enough money that it could be funded into infinity and beyond by a large donor. Obviously Mastodon is cool but lacks the network effect needed to get to ubiquity.

Thoughts?

Can you phrase your suggestion in a way we could present to meta shareholders? It’s nice idea. But I don’t see how any large percentage of shareholders would vote for that.
Good point. I suppose it would have to be a lucrative deal to buy back the shares so that there was a fair ROI for shareholders.
