It would be great, but normal people don’t care about the details of implementation. Mastodon does an okay job at this, but we really need something more like twitter that’s decentralized. Again, mastodon is close to this but missing key features that means it’s a no-go for most people.

Can you list those specific features? Would be interested to see if anybody is working on them.

One of the missing features in Mastodon is the ability to inline-quote someone else's post whole adding a response (known on Twitter as quote tweeting).

AP doesn't have this? Bluesky has this and it's in private beta still :(
