This is depressing to read. Philosophers should be the last people in the world who shout down and censor controversial arguments.
Academia has become hostile to anything that defies orthodoxy, save for some exceptions. I don't regret continuing with higher ed given how bad things have gotten. This is why Twitter and Substack are so popular. Why should higher ed have a monopoly on what ideas are good or correct? There is a much wider diversity of viewpoints outside of the academy.
The problem is that academia has a lot of power, since the intellectuals there often set what is considered the Overton window in politics. For example, the "woke" wave started off in academia before it became mainstream in the last ten to fifteen years. So it is very important to defend free inquiry and debate in academia.
Interestingly, on Twitter the arguments are shouted down, while in formal processes like refereeing, the rejections are more silent.
