Twitter's explore page used to have a search bar, but it's no longer visible to me. Can other people confirm? Instead, it shows Elon Musk and other trending tweets. The search bar is visible when on an account's page, but if you try to use it, a pop up prompts you to log in or create an account.
Is this a new tactic to force lurkers to create accounts? Or a bug?
Saw this today too. Also if you try and click a hashtag (which I suppose is analogous to a search) it just takes you to the login page.
I think I remember in the early days of the acquisition someone complaining about all the login-walls on Twitter and Musk replying with "working on it". It's too bad because I'd actually started reading twitter pretty regularly again, but I don't ever see getting an account.
