Ask HN: Anyone else noticing an uptick in spam on Gmail?

Seems like the amount of spam I am getting is massively up in recent months. Tons of pure spam, but also a very significant amount of email lists I definitely never subscribed to. I keep clicking 'report spam' but I feel like that button does nothing at all.

Spam to your own Gmail account, or spam from Gmail accounts?

I don't really have one of the former, but have been pretty disgusted with the quantity of the latter for quite a while now.

Yea I keep getting emails like this. "Ace Hardware <smile@yourn.voicejgtjut.cfd>" where the email is always some random garbage.

I got four of those over a two day period, random domains but always from smilie or similar. Every time I marked as spam, but they kept making it to my inbox. No idea why as there must be thousands of people telling Google that those are spam.

Yes but for Outlook.com/Hotmail/Live aka Microsoft consumer mail.

My 15 year old email is finally on some spam list and somehow Norton, Macafee, Fedex, Office 365 and Loan scams can come straight into the inbox.

Definitely noticed anonymous spam via 33mail.com recently

Hmm, I've had a number of legitimate customers using 33mail recently.

For many years now. Heck I created a gmail account with a long, random address, logged in a couple months later and it was full of spam.
