“Their position is that because Mr. Musk is famous and might be more of a target for deep fakes, his public statements are immune,”
This is becoming true ?
My YouTube feed is full of “Elon says” videos, many of them could be deep fakes? There is zero way to prove otherwise.
Not saying in this particular case that’s true, but we have been warned about generative AI and the misinformation and misrepresentation problem and so it begins.
Well why can't this happen ? If all you have is a video record of what was said, then you have no other evidence and it's validity can easily be questioned?
> “In other words, Mr. Musk, and others in his position, can simply say whatever they like in the public domain, then hide behind the potential for their recorded statements being a deep fake to avoid taking ownership of what they did actually say and do.”
Bullshit and lies are standard operating procedure for Tesla, especially when it comes to their so called "full self-driving".
It's funny how no one wants to take Responsibility for the bullshit when the prospect of Accountability appears on the horizon.

Elon is cunning enough to put it to work.
by this 'logic' any CEO could claim immunity from SEC since anything they say in real life could be walked back as 'that could be a deepfake!'
