Yes, grease is clearly where soaps made with lye become almost mandatory. I'm willing to bet for such chores, you could add a bit of regular soap to the mix.
In one video I watched, the person added a 1/4 cup of baking soda, and then some vinegar water in the fabric softener mechanism. Maybe that would have a similar effect.
This is really interesting, so we're going to try them. Our family is always up to the challenge.
I just ordered a 50g pack, which should be enough to go through a few laundry loads, and conduct some other experiments to see how it goes. Because of shipping, it's a little expensive to get such a small amount, but I didn't want to get 250g, or (gasp!) a 1kg bag until we know if we even like it.
If the liquid made out of it can get rid of the scaly bugs that coat parts of our garden every year, we'll be life-long converts!
This almost sounds "too good to be true" so maybe I'll make a post then about the experience.
