Looks really fun! Will try to play it as soon as I get time. Have you thought about using some kind of simple DB to pass asynchronous messages between users?
Examples:
Hidden in the jungle, have caves and other safe places where users can scrawl messages, and leave a gift for the next user, like "Secret Santa".
Have a way to encounter an NPC version of another player character within the jungle, and duel with them non-lethally, and the winner, even if they are the NPC / Away From Keyboard duelist, gets XP.
Implement a method for astral projection into the Astral Pub, a brewery located in the astral plane where you can chat live with all online players.
That's a great idea. I don't want to end up turning it into a MMO, but I've always loved how in some roguelikes you'd encounter a ghost of a past character.
I did have this story draft in place about encountering past cursed adventurers who could act as mentors or enemies, or finding places that were already looted. So that might be an interesting way to work that in.
By the way, my friends and I made a little concept-game about winning every encounter without killing. If you kill anyone you instantly lose. But we don't have time to further improve it, so feel free to copy any parts of the prompt that you like:
