I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on why FL seems not to have had much of an impact, either in use on its own or as a direct inspiration for later languages? (or if I'm missing things inspired by FL, what are they?)
Is it the combination of a variable-free style with a dynamically typed system that made it challenging to work with?
I'm not a PLT guy, but from my little reading, I think it was too radical and too early. But it was fun reading him saying "Everything works with pure functions, well, except IO, we need to fix that." decades ago.
