Ask HN: Cold outreach through email or LinkedIn?

2 points by bhavansri ↗ HN
If you had to choose, would you rather be pitched through e-mails or LinkedIn messaging?

This outreach is specifically towards developers, CTOs, VP engineering of startups.

Pitching is to try a product out for free or to get on a user interview call, and not about hearing a sales pitch to purchase a product.

The pitch almost doesn’t matter, I’m not going to read it.

My prompt for filtering inbound email is “Summarize the goal of the sender of the following email in 12 words of less”, which then replaces your subject. I almost never respond to a cold LinkedIn message.

Sorry, but it’s tough out there.

LinkedIn. My email is bombarded with spam and LinkedIn messaging isn't free or unlimited, so they tend to be a bit more focused.

Even on my private infrastructure emails, the email burden is quite high. LinkedIn has maybe 3 messages on a busy day.

This is what my thought process was, but I’ve heard mixed responses. A lot of people are more familiar with outreach through E-mail vs LinkedIn, so LinkedIn can feel off-putting.
Don't spam people.
Those are private...if you want my cooperation don't spam me
