Ask HN: What are some good terminals for Linux now?

2 points by prollyjethi ↗ HN
Hey HN Community!

I've observed lately that the development of contemporary terminals seems to be leaning more towards OSX, leaving Linux desktops in the dust.

In the past, iTerm2 was a leading terminal, but now the spotlight is on Warp. Hyper had its moment too, but it lacked robust Linux support.

Are there any stylish Linux terminals out there with a rich extension ecosystem? Suggestions are much appreciated!

Kitty? I don't know how stylish it is, but it has support for inline images, that's my killer application.
I have used Kitty a lot but it has many things missing. Like you can't simply edit the settings like in iTerm2.

And the history search is also lacking. I have to write regex all the time for it to work decently.

Alacritty, Contour, Foot, Kitty, WezTerm
I've never used Contour, Foot and Wezterm. How do they compare with Alacritty and Kitty?
JavaScript people really do ruin everything, aren't they?

"contemporary terminal", aka electron.. how sad

What do you expect a terminal to do?

I don't know, maybe support Linux desktops properly?
Just stick to xterm. Clean, uncluttered, and fast.
