> Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor declined to recuse herself from multiple copyright infringement cases involving book publisher Penguin Random House despite having been paid millions by the firm for her books, making it by far her largest source of income
Also: Congress practices insider trading.
Excellent. Another compromised supreme court justice to get rid of. Lets get rid of her and Thomas, and put in 2 new younger justices, preferably now.
The whole point of being a lifetime appointment is so that external parties cannot exert pressure on the justices. The system sacrifices a lot of other checks and balances because it puts "lack of external pressure" on a pedestal far far above most other things. When the justices put themselves in positions where ruling one way or another could make the difference between earning $3M to $100M or $0, its a complete travesty for the court and the nation. It means we get all the worst parts of lifetime appointments and we still don't even get the primary benefit of it.
We pay them a quarter million a year, but that's not enough I guess.
Just for reference, this was all publicly known at the time because the information was all disclosured on her forms. The daily wire didn't think it was a big deal back then because they didn't bring it up.

The issues that people are having with judges like Clarence Thomas are him earning large sums of money from potentially interested parties of the court without disclosing those earnings.

Wow they BRIBED her 3 million dollars??!! Wait, no, they published her books and sent her the proceeds from the sales of those books. Keep trying guys, I'm sure you'll find a liberal justice as bad as Thomas.
One day we'll figure out this "Democracy" thing. I'm sure of it. But for now it seems like it's always getting beaten senseless by oligarchs and their cronies.
