Show HN: Recap – Smart Split and Summarize with ChatGPT (recapext.xyz)

3 points by wangyaozhi ↗ HN
Introducing Recap, a new Chrome extension that utilizes ChatGPT to provide powerful text summarization capabilities for webpages. While there are other similar extensions available, Recap sets itself apart with its unique feature of splitting content into passages, allowing users to conveniently summarize specific sections of an article, rather than the entire text.

Recap works by identifying the heading tags in HTML (i.e., <h1>-<h6>) and dividing the article based on different levels of headings. It offers flexible configurations, allow users to enable/disable it for a single page or domain, and set custom configurations for each page or domain.

Recap is open-source and does not collect any user data (although the text must be sent to OpenAI).

Due to the algorithm used to split the text, Recap currently performs well with blog-style articles. I will continue to focus on parsing content on webpages to make it easier for people to summarize them. My main future plans include: 1. Supporting more types of platforms such as Quora, Stack Overflow, and even YouTube. 2. Storing the summarized content for users to easily search and find.

Any feedback is welcome.

Thanks!
