Tell HN: GitHub Search Unusable Now.

2 points by moomoo11 ↗ HN
I have a ton of repositories in my organization.

In the past I was able to use the search functionality to search my entire organization for occurrences of some code. Now I can no longer do that.

"Your search did not match any code"

It says that during the preview period not all code is indexed.

Does this mean that I will be able to search my organization repositories once this preview period is over?

Is there a way for me to use the old search?

Yes, you can disable the new search:

Top right, click on your profile picture, click "Feature preview", on "New Code Search and Code View" click "Disable"

From what I have seen/heard - GitHub has plans to remove the "Recently updated" search feature from the new search. That is a completely stupid and ignorant decision, and I am so angry about it I think I'd risk my HN account to express the full spectrum of my feelings.

Like, what the fuck.... am I supposed to be at the mercy of some algorithm now to find relevant and fresh code? I'd love to see the person who came up with this idea to give a talk on why they think it is a good idea.
