Ask HN: What it takes to create 1Password?

It strikes me that in such a sensitive and profitable market as password protection there is just a handful of products (1password, bitearden, keepass…)

And all of them have some issues and problems (even in the security department as far as i can see from social media discussions, let alone shitty ui etc).

I wonder what’s the big deal to create a nice UI over standard industry encryption algorithms and add some bells & whistles as needed?

Why don’t we see hundreds of competing products in this niche? Even if we narrow the scope to b2c market (I understand it’s much harder to find right market fit in b2b, but at the same time, it’s already found, so why not copy those features)

What crucial challenge specific to the product/market that I miss here?
