IMHO I believe that addiction is hard-coded in our DNA and can be a sort of coping mechanism; or "modus operandi" for work, you might say.

Take Tobacco for example. It's been around since circa 1400 BC ...how can you compete with over a millenia of evolution with humans and general use? We have to face facts and accept that we are prone to mind-altering, addictive substances and that's what makes us uniquely human.

Whether it's the coffee in the morning, Coca leaf tea for lunch or Marijuana...

We need our fix.

PS: And to those claiming they live puritanically I disagree. Endorphins are addictive, too.
