It's really just a matter of Google censoring people's email to promote Google services over third party competitors.

We as a society need to figure out how to get people to stop using gmail.

The calendar spam is real, and it doesn't serve anyone to pretend it's not.

Just like other anti-spam measures, non-spammers will get caught up in this. But a reasonable solution starts with acknowledging the issue is real: people figured out how to get calendar bookings on my calendar w/o my approval.
