Rearrange the deck chairs and pods all you want, the traditional office for knowledge workers is going to continue to sink and none of these gimmicks will turn back time nor make the competitors of those who try to force them on workers to not poach those workers away.
Hmm... Shift from an open office into a display box. Perhaps quieter, but it's going to be harder on the introvert to not feel like they're on display. And if you cover the windows, you'll find out the how claustrophobic team members are.

What's so hard, y'know, putting offices in offices? If it means less people per square foot, there's a few well-tested solutions that can be used. Singleton or pair-offices can't be that much different than pods in terms of floor space, but enable privacy for knowledge work. Which, supposedly, is an important activity for HN readers.
