Socialcam does not use Interface Builder - do you?
We've tried it. It is nice to be able to position UI elements by hand. When we started Socialcam, we used IB for our core views. However, as we added more complex UI elements that required layout code, we started to encounter problems. Dynamic elements not in IB interacted strangely with elements managed by IB. Odd things happened when we had modified an element and an app back-ground caused the view to be reloaded. Changes we made by hand confused IB and corrupted the .xib, breaking all IB outlets and requiring manual editing of the XML to get things working again. These problems were caused by us misusing IB. I'm sure we could have avoided them. But when mixing dynamic UI with IB, there are just too many pitfalls. Now we do all layout in code, and I think we do an awesome job!
Sound interesting? Hate Interface Builder? Think we're crazy and want to teach us how to use Interface Builder correctly? Send an email: founders@socialcam.com. We're looking for an iOS dev for our first hire.
