Yes/No/Why?

Do you think paid social media can deliver something better than Reddit/HackerNews?

No. Recently I started to use RSS reader again and I subscribe to blogs that I see valuable.

Tech twitter is terrible - doom scrolling to find something useful. Too much vim/tailwind related bs.

Nope. Go where the users are, majority are not going to pay and if you want to be involved you are left with little choice.
In theory yes but practically probably not.

I’d be looking for a Twitter/Instagram replacement with: A) no ads B) no data mining C) sensible (to me) moderation/filtering tools D) right to delete E) large network with diverse viewpoints

Truth is most people won’t pay and many who will would be bad actors so E is struck.

Even if a service doesn’t data mine and has a right to delete, others will create scrapers so B and D are void.

Im tired of “being the product” and Kagi has gotten me on board with paid search, but social seems harder to solve.

How would the service pay for itself? Are you willing to pay?

re: B, D) Could data mining be okay for public feeds where people choose to be anonymous?

Could private groups be peer-to-peer encrypted so the network can't identify the participants, can't decrypt and can't mine the conversation?

If I build it will you come?
