The previous pandemic, in 1918, was not associated with and did not cause a major disruption in communications technology.

The latest pandemic, starting in 2019, was associated with and did cause a major adoption of communications technology, vis. the rise of WFH.

2019 seems like a peak of a wave, a combination of the forces of biology and computer technology.
