Well I'm definitely not surprised. Give law enforcement any sort of surveillance powers like that and of course they're going to abuse the shit out of it. They literally have zero oversight whatsoever

And they say it has "now been scaled back"

Color me skeptical

The 200k+ from the past year is scaled back from 1 mil+ the year prior.
Things like these are always "oh no FBI is overreaching", until a terrorist attack happens, and then everyone goes "why did the FBI not do more? what's the intelligence agency good for".

From what I remember there were warnings that went entirely ignored, just like with most of the mass shooters we've been seeing

So no, these surveillance capabilities actually don't help at all
