Good on them and it makes sense in my opinion. Cash is a backup and we have seen cases were bank accounts were suspended for political reasons in a few countries.
Not expecting every shop to take cash, but the essentials should be available with paper money.
Without cash you are also a completely transparent consumer. This is data people will at some point demand access to. Better to keep that data as clean as possible.
Cash the reason why we did not get negative interest charges as well. I pay most of my stuff with plastic, but think cash is a very good idea.
Many years ago I did some work for a company of office cleaners. All staff payments were made in cash which was collected by local managers from the head office. Very many were ending up in hospital due to seriously violent attacks. Cash does have its downsides too.
