I really think the main advantage of airships is the space - you can have "wide open spaces" because there's no real cost to lifting more "air".

I also think we need to seriously consider using hydrogen again, Hindenburg notwithstanding.

There was also CargoLifter [1]. Their hangar is now an indoor tropical resort.
