Was there ever any doubt? Pantomimes of this sort - along with the catastrophizing by media - further erodes the public trust in institutions.
The pantomimes exist because there is always some doubt. People think they can use the potential crisis to insist on getting their way. "Give me what I want or I will cut off my nose to spite everybody's face."

It hasn't passed yet, and there's still some people making that threat. Odds are they won't be successful, but those "odds" are doubt.
