It is a super complex topic. On one hand the digital nomads bring a ton of cash to the places where they stay for a couple of months. But it also incitate the owners to create more and more AirBnbs and that push the people outside of their cities.
Lisbon has experienced this and started to limit it a few years ago, Bali will probably do the same in the next few years…
While I agree that having people settle in a place where their wages far outstretch those of the local population is problematic, I think there's more at play here and it's reductive to attribute rising costs and rents to this pretty small population of people. Rents and costs are rising everywhere, even in places where there is little or no digital nomad population. There are bigger factors at play such as global supply chain issues, rising inflation, globalisation, tourism, poor housing policies and corrupt local governments... Don't like Digital nomads per se (certainly the people conveyed here) but they are not solely responsible.
