iOS development is the wild wild west

Making an iOS tableview scroll well is not easy. UITableViewCell is a subclass UIView. If you create a complex tableview with UIKit, however, by adding subview hierarchies to tableview cells, scrolling grinds to a halt. To make a tableview scroll well, you have to do all the drawing in the top-level cell's drawRect method.

iOS development is less mature than web development. There is not yet a body of best practices. Fundamental improvements like drawing tableview cells in drawRect lurk behind every corner.
