Fallout 1 and 2 were the best RPG experiences I've ever had. Incredible... I've been chasing that high for decades now.
Arcanum is up there too, although it can be quite obtuse.
I'm still frustrated I hit a hard crash to desktop problem in my late-game save and never ended up beating Arcanum.

One of these days I'll get around to actually pushing over the early-game hump in the fan patch, I've had several abortive attempts.

Arcanum remains one of my favorite RPGs.

Hah, I had the same problem!

Unfortunately quite a few of Tim Cain's games have been rather buggy on release (Vampire bloodlines, Fallout, Temple of Elemental Evil) and extensive community fixpacks exist for them. I like a lot of his work, but a lack of "polish" was always his weak point.

YES!

So: Arcanum, Disco Elysium, Fallout 1/2... The superfecta.

Just checking that you've played new vegas?
New Vegas is great but in FO2 you can get married and then sell your spouse into slavery. You can become a porn star or perhaps just a fluffer. You can become a boxing champion or even a child-killer or slaver.

Silly, yes, but the amount of freedom one has in the isometric entries is staggering.

One of the things I regularly think about is the "Cafe of Broken Dreams".

I've found myself in dive bars and coffee shops around the world that make me think, "Oh, wow, this is like the Cafe of Broken Dreams" when it seems a lot of people there are down on their luck.

I did, but couldn't get into it.

First person just doesn't cut it for me.

While it is in many ways a different game, I somehow suspect the fanbases of Fallout 1/2 and Disco Elysium largely overlap.
LOVE Disco Elysium. Different for sure, but I agree... That was a lot of fun too.
