look i'm not a maga guy but when i read some of the investigative reporting related to jesse bloom noticing swaths of sequences deleted from public repos and peter daszak doing some questionable stuff and the ralph baric making that exact coronavirus gain of function it's clear some bad stuff was happening. the only one reporting it besides vanity fair was laura freaking ingraham. also I'm not maga or anti-vax or anti-fauci or anti-mask or anti-immigrant or anti-CDC or anti-WHO or anti-china and i think the covid response in usa should have been even faster and more restrictive.
Imagine how different the global response might have been to COVID if, at the beginning of the pandemic, we entertained even the possibility that this virus had been engineered or enhanced to better spread and/or infect humans?

I personally ignored much of the hype at the beginning because all previous SARS/MERS outbreaks were relatively easily contained (because the virus was not that well adapted to spreading in humans).
