You don't need AI for this; almost anyone in a farming area knows of an old cow, pig, or chicken. There's always someone who keeps one around almost as a pet for various reasons.
I know someone who has some backyard chickens what going on 11 years now; most of the flock has passed (or been eaten by predators), but the remaining few continue to lay eggs (except for the rooster, that lazy ass - should have got one from Kansas).
