Poll: Hackernews Meetup: Stuttgart, Germany

56 points by derwildemomo ↗ HN
Hi! Since we figured that at some people here ought to be from somewhere, germany, we thought a bit about starting a hn-meetup in stuttgart ( which should be well reachable for most people in that area ). We would like the meetup to take place around the end of march.

The intent of this post is to find out if there is any interest in such a meeting, and if, how many of you consider joining us. So please, vote with yes if you want to take part.

As far as the meetup is concernced, we'd suggest some lightning talks ( e.g. about the highest voted submission of the speaker ) to get to know each other, but it's just a suggestion. Depending on the count of participants, I'd organise a suitable venue. For free, of course.

Edit: I put up a small page on my blog for the meetup http://tinyurl.com/hnstuttgart

Why not Karlsruhe? It has the KIT, one of the highest rated universities in the field of Computer Science, so lot's of people (hackers) there that might be interested. (And Karlsruhe is about 64km away from Stuttgart.)
And it's closer to the Max-Planck Institutes for Informatics and Software Systems.
Few reasons, one of them: I know my way around here in terms of good locations for such an event, I think Stuttgart is very well reachable by train and there a quite some nerds around here, too. I don't see why not have another one in Karlsruhe later this year? Would be great to have another opportunity for leaving the office anyway :-)
I'd rather have Munich. But Stuttgart would do too.
Agreed -- Munich would be better for me as well. There's also a StartupDigest Newsletter there. My guess is that would be an easy way to promote the event?
Another vote for Munich. Start a thread?
Another one for Munich. I could provide a location too.
+1 for Munich, preferably before April

I would be interested doing this in Berlin. Maybe at the c-base?
If you do this, pls announce early so people can reserve some cheap tickets, etc.
I would instantly join Berlin =)
I can't stand the smoke there. Somewhere else?
I am sure we can have a non-smoking event there. IIRC Between 19:00 and 22:00 no smoking is allowed in the main hall.
I live in the Benelux, so Cologne would be a lot better. But more importantly, those who would consider going to a Hackernews Meetup, where do they live?
interesting question. is there a tool to poll for locations?
Stuttgart is great! Maybe in the Shackspace (http://shackspace.de/)?
shackspace is a bit too remote for my taste – something more central would be fine. I'm already working on that.
Awesome! Do this!
Sounds great. Considering to join you guys.
why the heck stuttgart?
pretty simple: Because that's where @derwildemomo and I both live.

I'm sure there are a lot of cities that would be a better fit for the general HN audience, but Stuttgart is boring enough as it is in terms of IT, so we thought we might as well do something about it.

Great! I will be there...
Considering, but in Munich the meeting would attract a lot more people, is full of hackers.
given the nature of a meetup, which is to meet people from where you live to talk about interesting stuff, asking for a munich meetup in the stuttgart meetup poll is missing the point.
Totally wish I still lived in Stuttgart.
erm... have you been there?
Same here, I moved to Berlin :)
Totally agree!
Is it likely for a CS student to find a job or an internship there or is this strictly intended for startup-founders? If the first case is true, I'm in.
It's for hackers.

I personally don't care so much for founding a company. I'm interested in freelancing and cool technology.

if you're looking for an intern in stuttgart, direct message me at twitter (@zebarto). we're always looking for technology focused people, willing to hack with latest technology and bleeding edge services...
This is for anyone who wishes the meetup was in (berlin|cologne|karlsruhe|munich): JUST MAKE IT HAPPEN. What are you waiting for?
