Pangenome graphs are data structures that describe many-to-many sequence homology (and variation) relationships between genomes. They have been hyped a lot, but this is one of the first instances of a new biological finding coming out of them. They were used to explain the most common kind of chromosomal abnormality seen in humans. The finding also suggests that recombination is not as straightforward as has generally been believed in genetics.
