Ask HN: How to Get into Freelancing in 2023?

3 points by leros ↗ HN
I'm a full stack developer who moved into product management several years. I'm a little unsure of what I want to do going forward so I thought freelancing might be a good move to give me some flexibility.

Does any on Hackernews have good advice for how to start freelancing? It's a world I know very little about.

It's really got to be though a personal relationship. Talk to friends and acquaintances and mention you're interested, and try and get either a gig directly or referrals. I don't really believe anyone hires at market prices from any websites or ads they encounter. Otoh, there are lots of people who need freelancers for stuff, so it's really a question of being out there and already having some kind of legitimacy established in potential employers minds when a job comes up.
I have some articles on my site typicalprogrammer.com
