Wait, there are more than one billionaire tech guy taking over a massive social media company?

It's not just about social network, it's about information control, therefor you need to also consider information networks takeover as a whole, and the picture become much clearer.
Yeah because the state of social media without billionaire tech bros was so much better off /s

Basically. At least with Musk there is a line of dialog and some insight on what happens. Unlike facebook, instagram or any others that censor/ban political voices that were democratically elected that oppose whatever mainstream decides is true at that moment.
And who was protecting it from the mass fabrication and censorship prior?
>And who was protecting it from the mass fabrication and censorship prior?

Who's protecting it now?

Or were you under the impression that Twitter became a bastion of free speech and truth after Musk took over?

Twitter still complies with government censorship requests[0]. The "blue check" system has become a farce[1].

Misinformation and hate speech have skyrocketed after Twitter stopped policing it and started unbanning and promoting right-wing content[2..4].

And oh yeah, all that corruption and evildoing exposed by the Twitter Files? Twitter's own lawyers admit it was all bullshit[5].

Centralized sites can never be free speech zones. Twitter wasn't then and isn't now and never will be because it's a centralized system owned by someone.

Then the system of this web is broken. This is censorship at it's finest. And Mr. SOROS would agree with me.
Can you please review https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html and use this site as intended? We have to ban accounts that post like you have in this thread—not because we disagree with you but because we're trying to have an internet forum that doesn't burn itself to a crisp.
Ok sorry for my previous message, the tone was not correct.

PS. I'd like to edit/delete it but I can't now.

It's ok - the post is killed and thus removed from view for most users, and we don't need to worry about past problems. We just care about people using the site as intended going forward.

I appreciate the kind reply!

The amount of bullshit in this article is beyond the dirrhea I had last time i visited South America
People can't wrap their heads around the simple obvious explanation: Musk has been "pilled" with new-right ideologies in precisely the same way so many others in the tech ecosystem have been "pilled" with this crap. That's it.

They think because Musk is rich his actions must be part of some kind of 5d chess game. He can't just fall for the same shit normal people fall for.

Rich people are just people with a lot of money. Their brains are not different from our brains. Rich people fall for bullshit ideologies and join cults, develop mental illness, engage in petty vindictive behavior, get addicted to things, and so on.

I have been in this culture (and on HN) for a very long time. I watched the whole alt-right / gamergate / neoreaction wave sweep through the community and indoctrinate huge numbers of people. Musk's conversion to it isn't all that surprising, especially given his well documented problems with long term relationships and possibly being "on the spectrum." New right ideology is really well crafted to hook into male insecurity.

... and yes, a billionaire can be insecure. Same homo sapiens brain we have, folks. (Unless you are a sentient AI.)

> Musk is aligned with Putin in other important ways. Both have been heavily promoting traditionalism, hierarchy, and patriarchy.

I would be ashamed to recommend an article with such a level of stupid generalization. There are a million people who could be filled in for the $Musk variable. So this isn’t a statement other than “I don’t like Musk so I’m saying he is like Putin.”

The author of this article heavily promotes traditionalism, hierarchy, and patriarchy so they must be in league with Musk and Putin. I present the same evidence of these offenses as the article.

People seem to forget that twitter was owned by a bunch of billionaire oligarchs before the current billionaire oligarch bought it.
